Education is the most valuable and everlasting gift one can give to children. In UK we are doing this to all our children extremely well. What about the Tamil children we left behind in Sri Lanka? Can you donate <\/span>\u00a3<\/span>1 upwards per month to improve preschool education of Tamil speaking children in Sri Lanka?<\/span><\/p>\n

How will your donation help the children?\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Currently Education Development Consortium is providing a 2-year diploma program to our preschool teachers (95 % are without any approved qualification now) at the Jaffna and Kilinochchi campuses of University of Jaffna (UOJ) and University of Vavuniya (UOV) by providing a scholarship through which we are paying their university fee of Rs.60, 000 per teacher. Our first batch of 165 teachers are about to complete their Preschool Diploma Program. We need funds to continue this program for the second batch and beyond to train the remaining 3000 preschool teachers in NP alone.<\/span><\/p>\n

Rationale behind this project<\/b><\/p>\n

It is scientifically proved that 90% of brain development in a person takes place before the age of 5, if children are nurtured in well run preschools under the guidance of qualified preschool teachers, which we do not have at present in the North and East and in the Hill Country. Our aim is to provide this educational foundation to all children aged 3 to 5 years, who will be well prepared to start their primary school education.<\/span><\/p>\n

  1. Sponsor a teacher to acquire this University Diploma – <\/span>\u00a3<\/span>150, equivalent to the cost of 40 coffees in a London Caf\u00e9!<\/span><\/li>\n
  2. Give a standing order for <\/span>\u00a3<\/span>1 upwards per month<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ol>\n

    This will transform the educational potential of all Tamil children equally by providing them life chances beyond imagination. We can dramatically reduce the number of young people dropping out of education, becoming unemployable and getting involved in antisocial activities such as violence and drug culture.\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n
